01/19/2010 News from the Rebel Cup
It was a long, wet and cold Hays Rebel Cup. We got knocked down and pushed around but we kept getting up and fighting. The Lady Lobos out shot and out played Bandera High School 1 - 1. We had an early lead off a beautiful 30 yard shot from Kyra Meaux but we couldn't finish late in the game and Bandera tied it 1 - 1. We also lost Amanda Valdez to a knee injury. She will be having surgery on Thursday. Wish her well. She has come a long way in her soccer and was voted Junior Captain by the girls.
Friday was a wet one. Our first game was against Bourne High School whom is ranked 2nd in the state. They lost in the State finals last year. We played great defense through the first 50 minutes but their depth kept bringing in fresh legs that we couldn't keep up with. The final score was 9 - 1 but I like to say that we beat them the last 15 because we scored and they didn't so we were better than the 2nd ranked team in the state for 15 minutes. The lone goal was scored by Dominique Jaquez. Her 40th of her High School career.
Our second game on Friday didn't get any easier. We were facing 5 A power house Trinity. Our bench was already full of injuries so Domino decided to bang into Amanda Garcia during pre-game warm-up. Amanda started the game but her vision was a little blurry. We took her out and saw her nose was not on straight. For the second day in a row we were at the hospital. Her nose was fine but she suffered a mild concussion. Sorry Coach Bradford. We lost 7 - 1 but had some outstanding play by Bekah Johnson, Amara Smith, and Dominique Jaquez. Haley Parsons scored the only goal. Her 4th of the season.
Our final game on Saturday was against St. Michaels Catholic Academy. The girls finally agreed with my daily saying, "It's a beautiful day for soccer." We played an outstanding game. We had learned so much against Bourne and Trinity that we were starting to get in rhythm. We lost a close 1 - 0 match but we out shot them through out the match.
JV only got to play two games. JV Blue got to play a half. The JV team won their first match against Manor and tied their second against Hays. The Blue squad didn't get to finish their first game on Friday due to the weather and field conditions. The referees canceled all JV games.
We have a match tonight against Crocket in Austin Noack Fields. After that we come back and prepare for a 3 day practice week to prepare us for District. Wish the girls luck.
01/27/2009 We Win!!!
The Varsity girls soccer team will be opening district play tonight after a 1 - 1 tie against Del Valle. Although it was a tie, the Lady Lobos out shot the Cardinals 12 -3 in the second half. We had two girls also getting to our bench late due to their participation in a school function (HOSA).
The girls played a great game to enter District play. Although we have had trouble scoring this year, Dominique "Domino" Jaquez is on a goal scoring rampage. She has accumulated 8 goals so far this season, including Friday nights only goal to tie the game. (Domino did not get to us until late in the second half.)
Seniors Goalkeeper Veronica Gonzalez and Defenders Audrey Gaytan, Maritza Gordillo, and Diana Martinez also helped keep Del Valle to 3 shots.
Please wish our girls good luck tonight as they open District play against The San Marcos High School Rattlers. It will be a cold one for us as the forecast predicts freezing rain by game time. The game will be played at San Marcos High School.
JV plays at 6:00
Varsity plays at 7:45

01/13/2009 Girls Soccer Team take part in McAllen Border Blast Tourney
We participated in the McAllen Border Blast Tournament this past Friday and Saturday. The good things about Tournaments are that you get to see what you need to work on and what shape your team is in. We played powerhouse Nikki Rowe pretty evenly the first half but went down 5 - 1. Dominique Jaquez scored our only goal of the game. The loss placed us in the consolation bracket. We were set to play Brownsville Pace. If we would have won it would of sent us into a semi-final game for a consolation trophy. We lost 3 - 2. We received a couple of penalty that resulted in goals for hand balls in the penalty box. Dominique Jaquez once again scored two more goals for the tournament. Audrey Gaytan played a remarkable game. That loss sent us into a PRIDE bracket. That means we were playing for pride. We played El Paso Montewood. We didn't play very well and lost 3 - 0. We got a lot of information from this tournament that is still preparing us for District.

01/05/2009 Lehman Girls Soccer gets a kick start in San Antonio
The Lehman Lady Lobos Varsity and JV team went to Wagner High School in San Antonio to participate in a two team 25 minute halves tournament. The JV team had a great first game beating Edison High School 5 - 0. The second game started 10 minutes after the first game ended. The Lobos kept up the intensity against Wagner but came out with a tie 0 - 0. Goals scored by Amara Smith with 3 goals, Haley Parson with 1goal and Julianna Galicia with 1 goal. Great play from everyone on the JV team.
The Varsity team had a pretty good performance as well. Dominique Jaquez scored 15 minutes into the first half against Edison off a great ball from Audrey Gaytan. The score stayed 1-0 even after a clinic of shooting by the Lady Lobos. 5 minutes after the first game ended the Lobos had to step on the field to face Wagner High School. Wagner beat Edison 2 - 1 and had an hour break after their first game. The Lobos took an early lead by Dominique Jaquez's second goal of the day. The Lobos looked good but ran out of gas at the end of the first half. The score went into the second half 2 -1with Wagner leading. The lobos kept shooting and shooting until Wagner scored a late goal. "The girls put on a great show this morning. We saw a lot of good things we can build on. We ran out of gas at the end but it is still early in the year" Coach Garcia is happy so far with both teams' performance.
